Judge Arthur Engoron has issued a ruling in Donald Trump’s’ New York civil fraud trial. New York Attorney General Letitia James is asking for $370 million from Trump and the co-defendants in disgorgement – or ill-gotten gains, alleging he filed fraudulent financial statements that allowed him to obtain loans and insurance policies at more favorable rates. The case goes to the heart of Trump’s image as a successful billionaire and includes accusations of fraud regarding his Trump Tower apartment, Mar-a-Lago estate and several golf courses, among others. Engoron has already ruled that Trump and his co-defendants engaged in fraud and ordered the cancelation of any business certificates they hold in New York, an action that is on hold pending Trump’s appeal. This ruling will address six additional claims against some or all of the defendants including conspiracy, issuing false financial statements, falsifying business records and insurance fraud.

Voters will not have a say in choosing the nominees; under New York’s special election rules, they will be selected by the county party leaders. The special election in what is now a battleground district is already being discussed as a key bellwether ahead of the November general election. “House Majority PAC plans to play a significant role in the NY-03 special election,” Mike Smith, its president, told CNN. In this case, those people are Jacobs, who also runs the Nassau County Democrats, and Rep. Gregory Meeks, the Queens County Democratic Party chairman. No matter whom Democratic leaders choose to run in the special election, the party will hold a primary for the general election nomination.

CNN —The recovery of wreckage from a private plane that crashed Sunday in Virginia, killing all four people onboard, after its pilot became unresponsive is expected to begin Tuesday. The unresponsive aircraft prompted the deployment of six fighter jets as it flew near Washington, DC, officials said. Six F-16s were launched from three bases and raced to intercept the private plane, White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby said Monday. Investigators are now examining the private plane’s autopilot function in the Virginia crash, a source familiar with the investigation said. Yet Sands’ New York shares rose nearly 6% on Thursday after results revealed it is having better luck in Singapore. The Lion City now accounts for three quarters of Sands’ top line, up from 22% in 2019. By contrast, in Macau, formerly the world’s largest gaming hub, Sands suffered a loss of $152 million, as gaming revenue sunk to around 10% of 2019 levels. Singapore’s resurgence is surprising, given volumes at Changi airport were still only around half 2019 levels in July and August.
